I got my wallet stolen and of course my license as well. While I waited for a new one, I carried my US passport with me as my identification. I went to a liquor store, which I have gone to before, to buy a bottle of vodka and I tried to use my passport as identification. They wouldn’t accept it. I asked them why and they said it’s not a drivers license. I told them that this document is far more powerful than just a drivers license, I can literally go into most countries around the world with it, something I can’t do with a drivers license. Plus it has my age on it. They would NOT budge. It was one of the stupidest things I had ever heard.I was arguing with them for a few minutes before I just left because it seemed like It was just getting louder and going nowhere. I went to the grocery store nearby and bought the same thing, with no problem. I walked back into the liquor store, showed them the beers, and said “Oh look, my passport worked, you fucking morons.” Also,this was in California.

So we’ve known each other for about 1 year and have been dating for 7 months. I’m a film buff, with the Letterboxd and everything, used to go to film club, Alamo Drafthouse screenings weekly, all that. So me wanting to watch Marty Supreme shouldn’t be all that out of the ordinary.

The issue is, he tells me, it makes him uncomfortable because he’s certain I am so attracted to Timothy Chalamet, and that since he’s one of the current hottest Hollywood guys, I must only want to go see it because he’s in it. He supports this claim by saying I tend to be attracted to those types of guys, and also that since I’m a HUGE horror fan and almost all we saw last year was horror films, it’s weird I now want to see what is “just a ping-pong” movie.

My rebuttals are: We didn’t see only horror films last year, as we watched Superman, Eddington, and Fantastic 4 at the theater. I guess I’m usually attracted to those types of guys, but not any more than a different type of guy. I’ve also never said anything that should cause this level of insecurity in Timothy Chalamet. I actually feel insane having to defend myself here, because I don’t think of that man ever unless it’s related to Kylie.

He was seriously freaking out at me. Nearly crying, screaming in my face that it’s my fault that we ended things off this way before he leaves for work. He’s telling me that I need to make it up to him and be sweet to him. I got defensive and spoke sternly that it’s a boundary for me that I am able to see movies I want to see. I suppose I can be argumentative but I don’t think I was being mean and was trying to be understanding the whole time, since he can be emotionally reactive. He says he doesn’t understand why I’m not more empathic to his discomfort about the situation, and that I should care more.

Am I overreacting in that this is a hard boundary for me, and that I won’t back down or apologize about it?

Edit: I want to add I love him and care for him, and things are usually good and when they are he is amazing. But this argument might be too much for me.
